Remember that these are the 1998 rules!
Rules for the Individual Event are essentially the same as those for the Team Event, which should be read by all competitors. Please note in particular the requirements regarding safety equipment, kayak specifications and warranties.
The differences for solo competitors are as follows:

| 3 | "Baton" | There is no baton, though competitors will still be given the ring and tweeds referred to |
| 5 | Route Plans | These must be submitted, but they can be changed on the day by agreement with the Event Organiser |
| 7 | "Foot Distance Requirement" | The distance that must be covered on foot is specified for the team event by reference to the "northings" rule. This does not apply to solo competitors |
| 8 | Replacements | This rule does not apply |
| 11.2 | Canoe time differentials | This rule does not apply |
