The start, finish and intermediate checkpoints on each day are given on the pages listed below. An outline map of the route is here.
Any updates to the route will be dated at the top of each sheet. Changes made on that update will be in green, and these changes will then revert to black on any subsequent update. Updates will be listed in "What's New"
Prefixes of the checkpoints indicate the following:
| "RC" | A Race Checkpoint where a tweed tally must be collected |
| "SC" | A Safety Checkpoint where departure into/arrival out of a cross country section of the route will be logged |
| "SD" | The start of a day |
| "ED" | The end of a day |
All checkpoints must be passed through in the order given and the current active team member logged in and out. The baton must be shown at each checkpoint and the team members number given to the checkpoint staff. Equipment checks will be carried out at all outgoing Safety Checkpoints and at other checkpoints at the discretion of their staff.
Except where noted, land sections of the event are continuous.
If there appears to be any discrepancy between the grid reference and the description of a checkpoint given, please contact us for clarification.
Teams new to the Challenge may find the following notes helpful:
| Keep the baton (tweeds) and your first aid kit somewhere handy for inspection. A great deal of time can be lost searching for one or both in the depths of pockets/rucksacks | |
| Outgoing team members at checkpoints should contact the staff and get all equipment checks etc over so that they can leave immediately their incoming team member arrives | |
Checkpoints for each day are as below:
| "Prologue" | Tuesday 4 May |
| Day 1 | Wednesday 5 May |
| Day 2 | Thursday 6 May |
| Day 3 | Friday 7 May |
| All Days | Logistical Arrangements |
Routecards in various formats can be dowloaded here:
Two spreadsheets (Excel for Windows) developed by teams for route planning are provided for download below. You may be able to adapt them for your own purposes to help with times, northings, spread of effort etc. However, these plans are not a substitute for the routecard summaries above, which must be submitted in the regulation format:
