Dates and Arrival
The 2000 Challenge will be run over the period Tuesday May 9 to Thursday May 11. Weather permitting, there will be "Prologue" for Teams on Barra on the afternoon of Monday May 8.
Registration, equipment and canoe checks and a team briefing will be held on South Uist on Sunday and Monday May 7 and 8.
The latest time for teams to arrive in order to complete the necessary formalities will be first thing on the Monday morning (i.e. effectively Sunday night), but in the past most teams have found a day or twos acclimatisation/reconnaissance to be useful (if not absolutely necessary!).
The final ferries from the mainland on which teams can arrive are:
Entry and Race Timetable
Teams and solo competitors judged to have suitable experience will be accepted on a first-come basis as entries are received, and will be notified accordingly.
Teams and solo competitors not felt to have appropriate experience will be similarly notified.
In the event that more than 35 entries are received, up to 10 teams over and above the 35 initially accepted will be put on a waiting list, subject to their consent. Teams may retire from the waiting list at any time, but once they have been accepted onto the main entry list the cancellation provisions of the event will apply
The timetable to the race will be as follows:
Fees
Entry fees must accompany the entry form and are as below. All fees are inclusive of VAT at 17.5%.
Corporate Teams are defined as teams sponsored in whole or part by PLCs or their subsidiaries, or Limited Companies with more than 50 employees
The above fees assume that we can communicate with you by e-mail. If for some reason you cannot give us an e-mail address, then a premium of £50 + VAT (£58.75) must be added to the fee for paper communications.
The entry fee must accompany the application form, but will be refunded, less a nominal administration fee of £20, in the event that an application is not accepted.
Payment can be made by cheque, Eurocheque or International Money Order. We regret that Credit Card payments are not possible at the moment.
Cancellations of entries by those initially accepted will be charged as follows:
Please note that the organisers cannot accept responsibility for unforeseen circumstances that might affect entrants, and teams should therefore take out insurance to protect their fee if they think this is necessary.
Warranties and Changes
Teams entering the event will be required to warrant that they understand the risks involved and that they have arranged insurance as necessary against both personal injury and damage to property, including the property of others.
The organisers reserve the right to turn down any application without assigning a reason. The organisers also reserve the right to cancel or amend the event, in particular in the event of bad weather. In the event of a last minute cancellation due to events beyond the organisers control, fees will not be returnable in full, although some proportion may be payable depending on expenses incurred by the organisers. Complete cancellation is not, however, considered a remotely likely circumstance.
